Volunteer Opportunties

We are a Community Association that is entirely dependent on volunteer efforts to achieve our goals. We are always in need of volunteers, to help with projects, special events, fund raising and any fun activities that benefit the local community.

Brassil Creek - Stream Watch

Description: The City Stream Watch program was initiated in 2003 by the Heron Park Community Association, Ottawa Flyfishers Society, Rideau Roundtable, National Defense Headquarters Fish and Game Club, the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and the City of Ottawa. The goal of the program is to collect valuable environmental information on twenty-two streams. The field work for the program is carried out with volunteers from the community to ensure streams are respected and valued natural features of the communities through which they flow. This year, City Stream Watch is surveying Brassil’s Creek. Here are some of the projects you can be involved with:

  • Training workshops for stream surveys
  • Fish sampling and identification
  • Stream assessments (ongoing from June – September)
  • Stream cleanups to rid streams of non-natural garbage and debris, if needed

At the end of 2010, a final report will be written based on the work done over the field season. This is a great chance for people to come out and enjoy Brassil’s Creek! High school students can count their volunteer time towards their required volunteer hours.
